The scheduled Tuesday, June 27, 2023 session of parliament has been moved to Thursday, June 29, 2023. The ongoing by-election in Assin North necessitated the adjournment.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader, raised concerns about quorum, which led to the decision to adjourn.
Only 14 members of parliament attended the session on Tuesday, with three representing the Minority Caucus and eleven representing the Majority.
Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made the proposal to adjourn the meeting due to the low turnout, which was supported by James Agalga, the Minority Caucus’ available leader.
As a result, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, parliamentary business will resume, allowing for increased attendance and participation from lawmakers.
“Many of our colleagues are participating in a very significant undertaking that is taking place outside of Parliament. It is vital for see in the present sitting that the Larger part dwarfs the Minority by 300% thus I suggest we manage only the introduction of papers and when we are finished, I accept we take a deferment thus I will argue that we adjust the business for now.”
James Agalga, on the other hand, denied that the Majority was larger than the Minority, saying, “It is obvious that we are not properly constituted to transact any meaningful business but before we even get to the point of getting those objections, if it is about the presentation of papers, I don’t think that should cause us any injury and we may yield and do the presentation and take it from there.” This statement was made in response to the claim that the Majority was larger than the Minority.
