Following a spirited victory over Central African Republic (CAR), the Black Stars on Thursday qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition for the tenth time in a row.
Young forward Ernest Nuamah, who recently joined French powerhouse Lyon, scored a late goal for Ghana to give the team a 2-1 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Particularly, Nuamah’s first goal was crucial in securing Ghana’s entry into the renowned competition, which will take place in Ivory Coast the following year.
The game was played in Kumasi’s famed Baba Yara Stadium, where Ghana holds a perfect record dating back to 2000.
Ghana showed resiliency despite a strong start by CAR, who scored first on an attempt by striker Louis Mafouta. Mohammed Kudus of West Ham scored a fantastic free-kick goal to tie the game and give Ghana some momentum going into halftime.
The pivotal moment occurred in the second half when Nuamah scored the winning goal for Ghana with help from the diligent Antoine Semenyo.
With the 2-1 victory, Ghana not only qualified for the AFCON, but also continued their amazing unbeaten streak in Kumasi.
