Commander of Small Scale Miners Association Taskforce shot, police on manhunt for suspects

The manhunt for Danso, a youth leader and miner at Asamang Tamfoe in the Atewa East District, is now underway by police in the Eastern Region. Danso is accused of shooting Major Patrick Don-Chebe, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Danso and his companion, Joe, a miner, went to a mining site near Asamang Tamfoe where the taskforce acting on intelligence had gone to crack down on illegal miners operating in the area ostensibly to prevent the suspects from being taken into custody, according to Citi News’ sources.

Danso and Joe both arrived at the scene, and while Joe was visibly carrying a gun as he approached the taskforce, Danso pulled a gun from under his shirt and shot Patrick Don-Chebe in the ribs when the taskforce members were caught off guard.

However, once taskforce members raced to help their leader, Danso and Joe were able to escape the area.
