Green Ghana’s seedling suppliers want GH2.3 billion in outstanding bills.

The Ashanti Region Seedling Contractors Association has urged the government to pay its members the over GH2.3 billion it owes them for the provision of seedlings for the tree planting activity during the celebrations of Green Ghana Day in 2021 and 2022 as soon as possible. The association claims that despite numerous guarantees, numerous meetings with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission to get the government to pay them have been unsuccessful. The Association’s members complain that they are currently frustrated with the harassment they receive from the banks they obtained loans from to buy the plants.Gloria Amponsah, the secretary of the Ashanti Region Seedlings Contractors Association, urged President Akufo-Addo to step in and ensure that they get paid to ease their burden in an interview with Citi News.”The circumstances are seriously harming us. Many people are in legal difficulty, and the legal system is assaulting them. We have visited the Forestry Commission numerous times ineffectively; occasionally, we even spend the night there; but, none of the promises have been fulfilled. As I stand here with five children and applied for a loan, they treat us as like we are not citizens of Ghana when we go there and act as though they have no compassion for us. We therefore request Akufo-Addo’s assistance.
