Honourable Kobena Mensah Woyome, the Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, has expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the people of South Tongu, particularly the delegates who participated in the recently concluded NDC Parliamentary and Presidential Primaries.
In a statement, Hon. Woyome acknowledged the privilege of working with and serving the people of South Tongu throughout his tenure as their representative in the Ghanaian Parliament. He sincerely thanked them for their support and trust, emphasizing that he cherished the memories and experiences gained during his four consecutive terms as their MP, which will officially end on January 7, 2025.
Hon. Woyome gracefully accepted the decision made by the delegates to elect another person to take on the role he has been fulfilling. He expressed his willingness to work collaboratively towards capturing power from the NPP in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections, emphasizing the need for unity within the party.
During the NDC Primaries held on May 13, 2023, Hon. Woyome faced a defeat, losing to Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor. Hon. Lukutor secured a total of 597 votes, surpassing the incumbent’s 562 votes. Other contenders, including Stephen Fenuku, the former Constituency Youth Organizer, received 347 votes, while Jonathan Kojo Adusu and Vivian Abla Kpeglo obtained 10 votes and 4 votes, respectively.
This outcome marks a significant shift in the political landscape of South Tongu Constituency, and the NDC will now rally behind Hon. Lukutor as their candidate, aiming to secure victory in the 2024 general elections.
