Kasoa: Military commander shot dead over land conflict

Two other officers who were with the deceased and who are said to be in his late 30s were not injured when the deceased military officer was shot and killed.
Sources close to Citi News said that the incident took place in front of the Millennium City Police station in the Central Region’s Gomoa East District.
According to information obtained by Citi News, a brother of a military commander purchased a plot of property from certain chiefs in Millennium City, but landguards fiercely opposed their attempts to develop the land.
After filing an initial report at the Millennium City District Police Command, the dead military man traveled to the location with two other police to find a permanent solution to the issue.
When the officers in a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GR 3591-24 arrived at the location, they saw some people working there and told them to stop. They then planned to file a second complaint at the Millennium City District Police station, but Benlord Ababio, the Gyasehene of Millennium City, met them there and insisted they not go there.
When the police chose to travel to the Divisional command since their attempts at the District command had failed, he shot at the officers’ car from behind after rejecting the chief’s appeal, killing one of the cops.
“I saw the incident happen right in front of me,” one eyewitness described the incident to Citi News. At the District Police station, Chief Benload Ababio spoke with the military commanders, urging them not to contact the Divisional Police Command, but they were unresponsive.
Gyamehene Benlord Ababio opened fire on their car shortly after they had moved it, killing one of the officers as they were on their way to the Divisional Command. The event did not injure the other two cops, but the chief was taken into custody right away and reported to the Divisional Police Command.
Later, the police moved him to the Accra Division because they were concerned about his being assaulted by the local landguards.
