Kenyan artist Maandy joins the ranks of Spotify’s EQUAL Artist of the Month

Maandy’s music is often described as witty, edgy, and perfect for dancing. She uses the self-styled title of Kabaya, which means baddie in Sheng, and sings in a mix of Sheng and Kiswahili. Maandy’s latest release, Tena, has been a huge success and she has been named Spotify’s EQUAL Africa ambassador for the month of May. Her music is multi-genre and versatile, incorporating Trap, Hip-Hop, and Dance Hall styles. Maandy is following in the footsteps of other Kenyan musical greats, including Muthoni DQ, Nikita Kering, and Xeniah Manasseh, by being an EQUAL Africa ambassador. Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program aims to amplify the voices of African female artists who are breaking down barriers and making waves in music. Maandy is honoured to be part of the program, and she feels that it acknowledges her contribution to the industry as a woman. Maandy is also shy in real life, but her music reflects her upbeat and cool style, as well as her love for Nairobi and the experiences of young women living there. Her advice to those who are dreading following their dreams is to take a chance on themselves and discover what they are capable of achieving.
