Former President John Dramani Mahama, according to John Dumelo, a parliamentary aspirant in the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat, will be victorious in the National Democratic Congress’ ongoing flagbearership campaign.
He predicted that Mr. Mahama will win the election by a landslide.
Mr. Mahama is in a two-horse contest with former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, after one of the candidates, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, withdrew on May 13.
Speaking on May 13, John Dumelo stated that Mr. Mahama is not in a tight fight, with Kojo Bonsu adding that the former president has already won the election.
He doubted that any of the Ayawaso West Wuogon delegates would vote against Mr. Mahama.
“There will never be a heated campaign between former President John Mahama and Kojo Bonsu.” Mr. Mahama will easily win. What I want is for him to win between 95 and 96 percent of the vote, which is what the delegates are saying and what my belief says. I doubt anyone will vote against former President Mahama in Ayawaso West Wuogon.”
“Of course, in a democracy, people will vote against him for personal reasons, but I hope and pray that the former President will get at least 99 percent from Ayawaso West Wuogon,” a two-time Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary aspirant said.
He stated that he was not shocked when Dr. Duffuor withdrew from the race.
“I wasn’t surprised that he dropped out of the race; in a democracy, contestants always drop out at the last minute,” he added.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency parliamentary election is currently on hold.
