In the parliamentary and presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress scheduled for May 13, just 9 of the 17 constituencies would cast ballots.
The poll in 3 seats in the Western Region has been postponed, and the remaining 8 NDC delegates will vote in the presidential primary instead because 5 are running unopposed.
Richard Kirk-Mensah, the NDC communications director for the western region, told Citi News in Takoradi that everything is prepared for the primaries.
In addition, he noted that only three of the eight incumbent MPs from the area will be challenged.
He went on to say that the party anticipates a heated election in the Shama and Essikado-Ketan districts, where the son of party stalwart Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah is running.
It will be fiercely contested for the nine constituencies where we will hold elections. It’s too early to declare a winner because everything is up in the air in every constituency. Emelia Arthur, a former district chief executive and deputy regional minister running against three men in the Shama constituency, will be the sole female contender.
Shama is going to be interesting. An American businessman is battling a UK-based solicitor in Sekondi. We are more than prepared. The ballot materials are already present in the various districts as the court matter has been concluded. Parliamentary elections will be conducted in 9 of the 17 constituencies. Three of the remaining eight candidates—Amenfi East, Evalue Gwira Ajomoro, and Tarkwa Nseum—are on hold, and nominations have not yet been accepted.
“The remaining 5 nominations have been made, but no one has filed a challenge. Since the majority of them are now serving MPs and have demonstrated positive deeds, people think they should stick together. Emmanuel Armah-ofi Buah, an MP for Elembele and the deputy minority leader of Parliament, is running unopposed, among others.
