The National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that it would still be prepared to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday even if the Electoral Commission (EC) is unable to do so.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, stated that although the EC is responsible for overseeing the elections, the party will still conduct the voting if it violates the agreements.
Although we have a contract with the EC, we will run the primaries via our own processes if they don’t oversee them. They are required to oversee our primary elections. This morning, we spoke with the EC about distributing the materials. We even promised to fly the materials in case they run into any problems. For our election results, we will bear sole responsibility. Elections will undoubtedly start,” he said.
Earlier, the EC rejected to oversee the election because Dr. Kwabena Duffour, one of the candidates for flagbearer, had requested an injunction. However, the lawsuit was later dropped, and the case was dismissed.
