The National Democratic Congress’ Eastern Region leadership has refuted claims made by Upper Manya Krobo, a former member of parliament, that his attempts to submit forms were unsuccessful.
According to the former lawmaker Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, the constituency office where he was supposed to present his paperwork has been purposefully locked since Monday, and executives have not returned calls.
However, Baba Jamal Konneh, the NDC’s regional secretary, tells Avenue Hub Media that the party has no plans to prevent any candidate from running.
“The NDC needs to be in a position of power, so we don’t want anyone to feel like we treated him unfairly. We are actually making an effort because we need that kind of cohesion and unity to unseat the NPP. Every constituency election committee has been pleaded with to treat each candidate equally without attempting to be biased.
He added that the former lawmaker could request national intervention if he so desired.
Since there is a hierarchy within the party, he can approach national executives and speak with them. We follow national guidelines, so if they ask us to fill out his forms, we will do so out of necessity. We’re here to help everyone, he continued.
