NPP will learn from the EIU study, according to Fuseini Issah

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) would take a cue from the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) study in order to retain power in the 2024 elections, according to Fuseini Issah, a former member of parliament for the Okaikwei North district.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is projected to win both the presidential and legislative elections in Ghana in 2024, according to the EIU’s most recent analysis, which was published on Friday, April 28, 2023.

In light of this, EIU stated that “The NDC stands a strong chance of winning the 2024 presidential election and securing a legislative majority.”

The Unit claimed that the projected voting trends were mostly determined by weak governance and economic hardship.

Speaking on the Selorm Adoono-hosted news analysis program The Big Issue, Fuseini Issah stated that the NPP will work hard to be re-elected and that their government would be superior to the NDC’s.

“For us [NPP], we will accept the EIU report as it has been provided. We will learn from it, and in the areas where we feel we are lacking, we will strive even harder. Ghanaians will attest to the reality that an NPP-led administration is almost always superior, according to the former lawmaker.

He noted that the ongoing global economic crisis has made incumbent governments unpopular, particularly the Government of Ghana.

The government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP), which at the moment appears like a bitter pill, will eventually benefit Ghanaians, the former MP claimed.

“EIU has been reliable for the last few election cycles. When it comes to the elections in Ghana, the results of their predictions and reports have been profound. I believe that, considering the state of the world economy, the current administrations are not very well-liked. No incumbent administration currently anticipates being well-liked to win an election with ease. An incumbent government won’t be able to hold onto power unless certain things take place. Thankfully, they say that elections are won even before they take place in our context. However, given the time before the elections, things could change.

We are aware that we have gone through some difficult periods, he continued. They said that the DDEP would lead to some disaffection with the NPP government, which is to be expected. On the other hand, when we begin to experience the advantages or reap the rewards of the difficult workout we underwent. Ghanaians will undoubtedly be the first to confirm that we were consuming chloroquine to treat the malaria we were suffering from. We cannot advance until those cyclical patterns and systems are broken.

In the general elections of 2024, he predicted that the NPP’s presidential candidate will defeat outgoing President John Dramani Mahama.

“We are familiar with the former president Mahama; he is not a stranger to us. When he had the reins of power, he did a dismal job. Even though there was no major worldwide crisis, he destroyed the economy. “During his presidency, Ghanaians had to put up with Dumsor for three to four years,” stated Fuseini Issah.
