NPP’s National Council members to decide fate of Boakye Agyarko, Addai-Nimoh

The outcome of the party’s run-off election between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko on September 2 will be decided by votes cast by members of the NPP National Council.
The choice was made following the party’s National Council meeting on August 30, 2023.
Given that both candidates for flagbearer received 9 votes each in the voting on August 26, there was some debate as to whether the party should permit all 961 of the super delegates to vote in the run-off.
Some party members had hoped that one of the two would resign in favour of the other, but that did not occur.
The National Council discussed the issue on Wednesday and came to the conclusion that the run-off should go place, but only their members would be able to determine which of the two flagbearer candidates would win.
The party claims that the choice was made to save time and money, and that it will be hosted in its headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
To limit its field of potential flagbearer candidates from 10 to five, the NPP conducted a super delegates conference last Saturday.
At the conclusion of voting, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 629 votes, or 68.15% of the vote, to win the super delegates conference.
Former trade minister Alan Kyerematen finished third with 95 votes (10.29%), followed by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong in second position with 132 votes (14.30%).
With 36 votes (3.90%), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto finished in fourth place.
Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh tied for first place with nine (9) votes apiece in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential election held on Saturday, August 26. The New Patriotic Party announced that a run-off election will be held to determine the winners on Saturday, September 2.
