Speaker of Parliament declares Kumawu seat vacant

As of March 28, 2023, the late Philip Basoah’s parliamentary seat in Kumawu has been declared vacant by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.After being discovered unconscious in his room on March 24 and being rushed to the hospital for treatment, the deceased Kumawu MP, 54, passed away there.

Speaker Bagbin stated that the Electoral Commission had been officially notified of the MP’s passing and was awaiting the holding of a byelection within the following ninety days in accordance with Section 3 of the EC’s Amendment Act 1996 ACT 52 before Parliament adjourned on Friday, March 31.The late Mr. Basoah was described as “a gentle and astute politician whose contributions to the party, constituents, and the development of Ghana through his work in Parliament” by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which paid tribute to him.
