“The United States of America plans to increase its investments in Africa in order to spur economic growth.
Vice President Kamala Harris made the announcement upon her arrival in Ghana as part of a nine-day business visit to the continent.
She was accompanied by her husband, Douglas Emhoff, and other top US government officials.
Madam Harris was greeted at the Kotoka International Airport by Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, amid traditional drumming and cheers from some schoolchildren.”
In her speech, the US Vice President emphasized her commitment to “discussions that would develop opportunity in all areas of the continent.”
The US expressed its interest in Africa when President Biden met with African leaders during the December US-Africa meeting.
In response to China’s and Russia’s expanding influence on the continent, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden have all visited Africa to strengthen ties.
The Vice President’s visit is designed to build on conversations from the December conference.
She is also due to meet with President Akufo-Addo to discuss economic issues as Ghana strives to restructure its foreign debt.
