UEW Augments its Infrastructure to Facilitate Academic Work – Vice-Chancellor

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is developing infrastructure to facilitate academic work and lessen the load on staff members and students, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mawutor Avoke.

The institution was building a faculty building at the Ajumako Campus, a graduate school facility at the North Campus, a three-bedroom staff housing, and a distant learning center in Accra, he said. He made reference to pre-contract work for the construction of the North Campus’s Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD) and College of Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) five- and six-story office buildings, respectively.

He emphasized that work on the lecturers’ office complex, the Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS) hostel sites 1 and 3, the university hospital, and the commercial center had all resumed at the North Campus. The Vice-Chancellor’s lodge and the science lab had also undergone renovations, he added.

The discovery was made by the Vice-Chancellor during the 27th Congregation’s opening session at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre on the North Campus in Winneba. The event started on March 27th, 2023, and it will end on April 1st, 2023, on a Saturday.

During the 27th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games, which were held at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in November of last year, he recalled the university’s triumph.

“The UEW won the recent GUSA competition with a total of 61 medals and 10 trophies. For the first time in GUSA history, a university has taken home every gold medal across all competitions. We were able to earn the title of being the competition’s top university overall since UEW won all six of the gold medals in badminton. Along with individual awards, the squad took home 22 gold, 22 silver, and 17 bronze trophies, he said.

The graduating students were exhorted by Professor Avoke to pursue their courses toward further education and other endeavors.

“Even if achieving achievement may not always be simple, the results will speak for themselves. Let the university’s anthem continue to resonate in your head as it motivates you to keep fighting until you succeed. Also remember that success comes from a combination of positive behavior and positive thinking, as Shiv Khera noted.

The Vice-Chancellor sent his best wishes to the graduates and told them that the world was looking forward to their significant contribution to improving it. He exhorted them to come up with novel concepts that would make them stand out and fly the UEW flag high.

Embrace integrity, objectivity, and honesty as your goals. Use your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Stand by your well-supported convictions. Approach your tasks with a positive outlook. “Wherever you end up in the world, dig into your archives of experiences gained at UEW and use the academic skill sets you have acquired to navigate your path as a world changer,” he advised.
